Cat Gatekeeper is a browser extension that helps you take breaks from websites where you tend to lose track of time. This page explains exactly what data the extension touches, how it's used, and — just as importantly — what it never does.
To do its job, Cat Gatekeeper needs to keep track of a small amount of information. All of it is stored locally in your browser's storage and never leaves your device:
| Data | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| Your time limit & break duration settings | So the extension knows when to trigger a break |
| Your list of target sites | So it knows which sites to watch — you choose these yourself |
| Active tab's URL / hostname | To check if the current tab matches one of your target sites |
| XP, level, streak, and unlocked themes | To run the gamified break system (cosmetic progress only) |
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
storage | Save your settings and progress locally on your device |
tabs | Check the active tab's URL against your target site list, and show the break overlay on the right tab |
alarms | Reliably run the usage-limit and break-duration timers |
idle | Pause the timer while you're away from your keyboard/mouse |
| Host permission (all sites) | You can add any website as a target site, so the overlay needs to be able to run wherever you choose |
None. Cat Gatekeeper does not share data with any third party, advertiser, analytics service, or external server, because it doesn't send any data anywhere in the first place.
Cat Gatekeeper does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children, since it doesn't collect personal data at all.
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version adds a new feature that touches data differently — this page will be updated, and the "Last updated" date above will reflect that.
